Drink and dance for cheap at this sprawling canteen in the 10th.
We love this nuts-and-bolts canteen, though for drinks rather than dinner. Located at the Place du Colonel Fabien, the two-story industrial façade – all windows, steel and concrete – may go unnoticed during the day, but Thursday through Saturday from 8pm onward the bar is packed to the gunnels (which is telling, as the space is vast, perfect for big groups or pub crawls). It is also the only venue at Colonel Fabien that puts on gigs and DJ sets (of all genres). During happy hour (5pm-8.30pm) pints are €4, while cocktails and champagne go for €5. The caipirinhas are mediocre but strongly dosed. With a spacious terrace open during summer and massive floor-to-ceiling windows affording a panoramic view on the square, it’s a pleasant alternative to Paris’s many stuffy basement dance bars. But if you’re planning on staying out all night, it’s best to have a plan B: La Cantine Fabien isn’t a club and shuts promptly at 2 am.
