This French jazz quartet shares its name with the American astronomical experiment that was started in 1960 in the West Virginia state (and another band from El Paso). Project Ozma’s goal was to listen to interstellar vibrations in search of other forms of life. The goal of Ozma the band is to listen to music composed for silent cinema and write new music to give these films new life.
Scharle and his band mates – guitarist Adrien Dennefeld, saxophonist David Florsch and bassist Edouard Séro-Guillaume – studied together at the Conservatory of Strasbourg, their hometown, and became Ozma in 2002 (Adrien was into astronomy at the time). Ozma have released four jazz albums so far, the latest one being 2011’s 'Peacemaker'.
