Time Out says

While it no longer holds the title of the tallest building in Peru (the Torre Banco de la Nación took the top spot when it was erected in 2015), The Westin Lima Hotel & Convention Center is still a sparkling sight on Lima's skyline, climbing 30 stories high. Indicated by the name, the glass and steel skyscraper is attached to the convention center, making for an easy stay for the business class. However, The Westin Lima Hotel’s spa-like amenities and prime access to culture and outdoor adventures provide an opportunity for travelers of any kind, even if you didn’t pack a tie.

Why stay at The Westin Lima Hotel & Convention Center

With its prime location in the financial district of Peru, The Westin Lima is well-suited for high-end business travel. Particularly because the hotel is attached to one of Peru’s largest convention centers, easily accessible from the hotel’s 3rd and 4th floors. And the hotel is sure to please the corporate card carriers among us as the soaring entryway leads to a marbled lobby decorated with murals from Peruvian artist Edwin “Pésimo” Higuchi Fernández. The hotel houses a lobby bar and two restaurants, ready-made to fuel you up for a meeting-heavy day ahead or to unwind with colleagues over a day well done. And there is even a speakeasy that makes for an easy escape without leaving the building.

What are the rooms like at The Westin Lima Hotel & Convention Center?

The Westin Lima Hotel is home to 301 guest rooms and suites. Seemingly matching its targeted clientele, the palette of my deluxe room mimicked that of a buttoned-up tan suit, with deep browns and rusty reds and touches of leather and stone. It was definitely a standard room, but still a comforting one thanks to a plush king bed and a chaise for lounging. And after a long day exploring the city, it was easy to wind down with a rinse inside the walk-in shower replete with a waterfall attachment or a little soak in the tub. Keep in mind: the rooms are best suited for a single occupant or couples, as the bathroom's graduated frost glass walls would likely make for an awkward work meeting the next day.

However, if your stay is more work than play, the oval-shaped desk near the window seems like the place to do it. It certainly made for a scenic work-from-home situation, as it sat right in front of the floor-to-ceiling window that looked out onto the San Isidro district and the Pacific beyond.

Where are the best places to eat and drink nearby?

Only have a chance for a quick bite before hopping on a call? The hotel houses two restaurants and two bars onsite so you never have to stray too far from your laptop.

A prime watering hole for breakfast is Market 770. The buffet certainly housed quite the spread in the AM—rows of sliced fruits, baskets of tamales with a trio of salsas and a carving station for sanguches (or sandwiches). Thanks to their Eat Well Program, you can also grab freshly squeezed juices, ready on the go. El Salar is a more casual bar and restaurant, while Maras leans into Peru’s gastronomic calling card with salt flights, palm-sized clams that pool with fermented charapita chili peppers and burnt ash and desserts that get a blast of liquid nitrogen for the ooh and ahh factor.

The hotel also houses a speakeasy, clued in only by a gold record that hangs in the lobby. Once you utter the password, a mirrored wall opens up to welcome you to Alphonse Bar, a jazzy lounge that’s named after the mobster Al Capone. Or really, it nearly posits him as a hero as a baby-faced portrait of Scarface overlooks the bar and menus fashioned like old-timey newspapers are emblazoned with the extra, extra title of “Alphonse’s Legacy.” It is certainly a theme, a bit of a bizarre one seeing as how the man is tied to the deaths of a few hundred people. Perhaps the bar would do well to simply lean into a more general 1920s aesthetic, as the suspender clad bartenders and classic cocktail menu would certainly fit.

What amenities are offered at The Westin Lima Hotel & Convention Center?

The Westin Lima Hotel houses 19 state-of-the-art meeting rooms and access to the center itself. Up above, the executive level houses the Westin Club, accessible by Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Elite status or available by booking a club-level room/suite.

But once work is over, wind-downs can be had at the hotel's very own spa. The Heavenly Spa by Westin is the largest hotel spa in Lima with 17 treatment rooms for facials and massages, a full-service salon and a thermal circuit with cold plunges, jacuzzis and waterfall showers for a refresh. There’s also a 24/7 gym with a dedicated room for mat work (stretching, yoga, etc) and access to personal trainers. The heated indoor pool was its own little luxury, wide enough for laps but serene enough just to sit at its edge and take it in.

What’s the area like around The Westin Lima Hotel & Convention Center?

The hotel is firmly situated in Peru’s San Isidro district. Billed as the financial and banking district of the capital city, the district sprawls with high-rises that make it to the edge of the western cliff face that overlooks the Pacific Ocean. Urban center it may be, the neighborhood wears the remnants of its past, including archaeological sites that originate from the pre-Hispanic era.

Just a 15-minute drive away is the tourist-friendly Miraflores, replete with scenic beachside cliffs, the mosaic and love-filled park, Parque del Amor, and the Huaca Pucllana, an adobe pyramid and ceremonial center that dates back to 500 AD. For a bit of culture, one of the top 25 museums in the world resides just a 30-minute drive away in the Pueblo Libre district: the privately-owned Larco Museum. Home to a collection of pre-Columbian art, including over 30,000 pottery artifacts, the museum is settled in a space lush with gardens and an indoor-outdoor restaurant that's just as beautiful: the Museo Larco Cafe | Restaurant. Further south, you’ll find the hip neighborhood that is Barranco, colored by outdoor murals and bohemian vibes. Don’t forget to visit the Puente de los Suspiros, or the Bridge of Sighs, known for making wishes come true.

Why you should book a stay at The Westin Lima Hotel & Convention Center

This is a hotel that is a shoo-in for the business types with its close proximity to the financial district and even closer commute to the convention center. Its world-class, in-house spa and luxurious pool to match makes for an even match of work and play.
