The Study at University City is a smart hotel that models itself on the neat and tidy workspaces we all wish we had instead of our messy desks strewn with piles of books and dirty coffee cups. This may not sound like a particularly sexy source of inspiration, but it actually results in rooms that are comfortable and sleek, with plump leather armchairs, angled lamps and fully-stocked bookshelves that you’ll happily to spend an hour or more browsing.
At times the sparse design can make things feel a little cold and empty, but this won’t bother you if you’re here to get out and explore the city, which is easy to do given how well situated The Study is for getting into the rest of the city. Plus, with 30th Street station just a ten-minute walk away, it’s ideally situated for anyone arriving in Philly by train.

If you hadn’t already guessed it, University City is Philly’s student enclave, home to both The University of Pennsylvania and Drexel University. In truth, this can make the area feel a little soulless for a visitor, but it’s a great area for anyone wanting to stay away from – but still within easy reach of – the bustle of the city. Philly’s main attractions, including the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Independence Hall and Liberty Bell, are all easily reachable via public transport or a decent walk.
