Finally Got the News is a documentary film made by and about the League of Revolutionary Black Workers. The League was based in the auto plants in and around Detroit in the 60s and early 70s. Oppressed and exploited by the car companies and faced with racism by their own union, the UAW, the League combined the fight against racism with the fight against exploitation in the plants. What is more, as conscious socialists they looked to the working class, both Black and white, as the people would could win socialism. As such, they represent one of the high points of the Black Power and labor struggles of the time.
We will show the movie and have a discussion of the first four chapters of Detroit, I Do Mind Dying after the film. The book can be found here: http://www.haymarketbooks.org/pb/Detroit-I-Do-Mind-Dying If you can't get the book in time and want to join us for the discussion, post below and we can get you the reading.
