Time Out says
Save the date for the first-ever Muslim Writers Collective in Philadelphia! Join us Friday February 13th for an evening of dynamic sharing aimed at celebrating culture and creativity in the American Muslim community. The event will be located in STC Room 145 Auditorium on 43rd St and Woodland Ave.
The Muslim Writers Collective is a bold initiative aimed at reclaiming control over the American Muslim narrative and providing a safe space for current and aspiring writers. Through storytelling, creativity, and culture, we seek to incubate a vibrant literary tradition among youth in our community.
Our core event is a monthly Open Mic where participants share their writings, stories, and spoken word. We also have numerous member-led initiatives that are in early stages of development, including a prison writing project, writing workshops, book clubs, and an urban citizen journalism project.
Founded in January 2014 in New York City, we have active chapters in both New York and San Franscisco, as well as nascent chapters in Atlanta, Baltimore, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Detroit, Houston, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, and Washington DC.
Come meet other Philadelphia Muslim writers, learn about what's in the works for the Collective, and share your work in a safe space where you can receive constructive feedback and support. Open to all! Doors open at 7:00pm, event starts at 7:30pm. Bring a dish to share if you'd like!
Sign up now to share your work! Readings, poetry, spoken word - all formats are welcome, either polished or raw, published or not.
