Skeptics In The Pub: New Location! Pubwarming Party

Time Out says

Super excited to announce the brand new and amazing venue welcoming us as regular guests. I don't want to hype this up too much, but the place we will call our new home looks like it was designed specifically for us. Last year, 2nd Story Brewing Co. opened up in the heart of Old City, taking over the old Triumph Brewery building and adding their own renovations and style, making it even more beautiful than it was. And yes, they brew their own beer and yes, it's delicious. Their menu is also fantastic and has been getting rave reviews. We're being given our own space: two adjoining rooms in the upstairs. One of them has tables and chairs and big windows looking out onto the street. The other has long tables and benches made of reclaimed wood, and a large pull-down projection screen for when we have presentations. Each room holds 20-30 people. Here's the special deal we get: $4 pints, $2 off entrees, $1 off everything else, including cocktails, glasses of wine, appetizers, and "bar bites". Everything looks yummy, check it out for yourself: http://www.2ndstorybrewing.com I've been speaking with the manager and brewer John, and he is great. He gets what we're doing and he's being generous with his offer. We're stepping up our game, skeptics. We expect you to look presentable and act like an adult. So no lighting farts on fire. Let's make a good first impression on this place. They are rolling out the red carpet for us, so let's show them some love and show them how fabulous we are. Please invite people who may not have been out to one of our meet-ups yet. Let's make it a party. * * * * * This will also be the first meeting to discuss our new book: "Do You Believe In Magic? The Sense and Nonsense of Alternative Medicine" the acclaimed and important book by Philly's own Paul Offit. Get the book and read this jawn! http://www.amazon.com/Do-You-Believe-Magic-Supplements/dp/0062222988 * * * * * Our next meet up after this one, Thursday the 26th, will also be our first guest speaker presentation at our new location. Steve Jacobs (He's not on Facebook, find him on YouTube) will be giving a talk about Saudi Arabia, an investigative piece that he has been working on for a while. Expect it to be equal parts funny and informative. Make sure to check out the debut of his presentation at Helium Comedy Club on the 18th. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cT6dx34x480&list=PLEvx-dhQIelPoho8xDMdDpbQ2t8AuUhGg * * * * * Skeptics In The Pub is held in various forms around the globe, and we started a local chapter. It's a chance for like-minded people to get together for drinks, discuss things skeptic-related in a friendly, informal setting, and meet others who may not share views, but are interested in the topics. This is a meet-up and book club. Every other month, we vote on a new book to read on various topics of science and skepticism. Read at your own pace, or not at all. The point is to provide fuel for discussions. This event is free and open to the public. Please consider bringing a small donation to help us make this happen. We're planning to have guest speakers for future events, ranging from academics to comedians. We welcome any support, including ideas or suggestions. - Visible Friends Network Join us on Meetup http://www.meetup.com/Philly-Skeptics ***** "True skepticism has nothing to do with disbelief. It is about taking people's claims seriously and trying to understand them." - Susan Blackmore
