An awkwardly pompous and erudite male lead, cast in the shadow of an intimidating father figure. A smart, driven, yet adorably manic career woman. A gruff, witty, perpetually disheveled pragmatist. A sassy and enticingly unavailable colleague. They all barrel down hallways at breakneck speeds, spewing motor mouth exposition and deadpan snark couched somewhere between liberal idealism and self-deprecating cynicism.

Love him or hate him, no one can dispute that the work of Aaron Sorkin is as repetitive as it is iconic. The man behind such television shows as Sports Night, The West Wing, Studio 60 and The Newsroom has also penned screenplays the likes of The American President, The Social Network and A Few Good Men – all that and he’s never been sick at sea.

This March, Figment takes aim at the man himself, the lauded scourge of the writers room, to pay tribute to and satirize his unique approach to dramedy. Each night, a cast of improvisers will use every Sorkinism and Sorkinese trope in their arsenal to engage in snark-to-snark combat, exposing the hilarious, neurotic underpinnings and fast-paced, high-status daily life of a professional industry suggested by the audience.

If you haven’t seen Figment improvise Sorkin, you haven’t seen Shakespeare how it’s meant to be done.
