Tuesday Night Quizzo With Geeks Who Drink!

Last Weeks Recap 2/17/15 Fat Frozen Tuesday Hosted By Geeks Who Drinks: Carl Boccuti Quiz Schedule Tuesdays (8 PM) at Gunner's Run 1001 N 2nd St, Philadelphia, PA 19123 (in the Piazza at Schmidt's) Well, nobody rained on our Mardi Gras parade, but Mother Nature did kinda snow and ice all over it. The result was what I'll choose to call a more "intimate" quiz tonight, with four valiant teams hoofing it through the awful weather and sticking through 8 tough rounds meant to get us thinking about latitudes more southern and evenings more festive. The quiz itself was really a tale of two audio rounds, both of which had everyone fired up- and perhaps one should consider that a good thing given the polar vortex outside. Round 2 featured songs that had various associations with the themes of "Fat" and "Tuesday", but with the bizarre twist of each track purposely skipping like a broken record. Most seemed to disagree, but given my crush on Tuesday Night Music Club-era Sheryl Crow, it uh, wasn't THAT bad to listen to. And then Round 7 featured a wide variety of movie clips set in Louisiana...and believe you me, any time you can juxtapose Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood with Swamp Thing, well, you're bound to be perplexed. In the end it was the barflies known as The Wolfpack coming out on top after several weeks at or near the cellar. Congrats to them, and congrats to my man Pat for holding the fort down behind the mic. I'll be back next week, and so will the sun, I promise!* *Nevermind. Here's the short version: Geeks Who Drink is a homegrown Pub Trivia Quiz modeled after those in Ireland and the UK. Our quizzes cover everything from celebrities in trouble to wordplay to bad television. You can get a feel for the questions we ask by playing a sample round here. Each quiz has two audio rounds: a "Name that Tune” style round, and another round comprised of soundbites from movies and TV. Play in teams of up to six or by yourself if you're some kind of savant. If you want to play but don’t have a team, come anyway. We can usually get single players recruited onto an existing team. Winning teams gets street cred, bar cash and other prizes depending on the venue. Bonus Questions for free pints are sprinkled throughout the quiz.
