2016 Wilkinsburg Vacant Home Tour says
The Vacant Home Tour that took place in Wilkinsburg last year was the first of its kind and especially the first type of tour to hit Wilkinsburg. It received national and even national press being featured on NPR!

Through feedback following last year's tour, we are excited to introduce some new elements at this year's tour. We will be partnering with more local organizations and businesses to feature several "points of interest" along the tour route. These points include recently acquired vacant properties, local businesses, youth organizations, social services, housing organizations, and more.

Pittsburgh Urban Christian School (PUCS) will be helping us clean up the tour route on May 6. Then on tour day, they will be hosting a lemonade stand and mini fundraiser for their Robotics Program. Ahmadiyya Muslim Community will open up their building on South Ave. for tours during the event. Additionally, the formerly vacant Lohr Building at South and Wood will be open to tour goers, and the Why Not Wilkinsburg? documentary produced by Wilkinsburg native, Minette Seate - WQED, will be screening. Tour goers can also stop by the Borough Building, the historic Train Station, churches, and other local landmarks during the event.

We hope tour attendees will come to Wilkinsburg a little earlier in the day to participate in the Wilkinsburg Baseball Association's Walk for Peace & Opening Day Parade. It will begin at 10 a.m. at the Borough Building - 605 Ross Ave.

In addition to the tour, two Tools & Resource Workshops will be held during the event. Through these workshops, tour goers can learn how to buy, finance, and/or rehab vacant property. Register for a workshop here: http://bit.ly/VHTworkshop.

Check in opens at 11 a.m. at the historical South Avenue United Methodist Church - 733 South Avenue, Wilkinsburg, PA 15221.

Due to the expected high temperatures, water stations will be located along the tour route. Restroom facilities will be noted on the tour map.

Food for purchase will be available in the vendor area behind South Ave. United Methodist Church. Featured food vendors include Franktuary, Mac & Gold, Berlin Street Food.

This event is free and open to the public!

Following the tour, anyone interested can stop by two "bonus stops" -- properties that two Wilkinsburg residents purchased through the Vacant Property Recovery Program and have amazing plans for. Anyone interested in the VPRP should definitely take advantage of this opportunity so you can learn first-hand how to successfully apply for this program.

We look forward to seeing you on May 7!
