The Kinks, Locks and Twists Conference™ offers women of color a unique space to explore the dynamic relationship between the health and well-being of our bodies, communities and the environment in both a local and global context.

KLT™ also serves as an incubator to share models and develop practices to solve the problems caused by living in an increasingly toxic world. In a world that devalues the voices of women and girls and the wisdom of our foremothers, the KLT™ Conference offers participants across ethnicities, nationalities and cultures an opportunity to remember, celebrate and connect to legacies with rich relationships to the land.

The 7th Annual Kinks, Locks & Twists Conference™ will transform the Hill District into a living campus utilizing green space, farms, parks, historical sites, the entire Hill House complex, the Carnegie Library and the Thelma Lovette YMCA. We will offer a five-day experience of workshops, skill shares, plenaries, DIY farm and gardening trainings, the Asase Ye Duru Family Festival, the Black Hair Institute and health and wellness tutorials. We will we engage various Hill District businesses to participate and contribute to this annual event and centralize the significance of the Hill District being both a historical and current site of cultural innovation and as an example of “urban beauty” as described by the Hill District Green Print.

We will be offering Green Tours, highlighting the dynamic history and contributions of the Hill District as well as the abundance of green space affirming the identity of the Hill as a “Village in the Woods.” Conference participants will build community with one another and be encouraged to take an asset-based approach to experiencing the Hill District.

Please join us as we bring together local, regional and national leaders to explore the connections between beauty, culture, policy, media, the economy and environment, behavior change and community organizing. We will envision the world we want to live in and create powerful strategies for building it together.

We look forward to seeing you!
