Join the Afro Yaqui Music Collective in celebrating the radical legacy of the real labor day, known as International Workers’ Day and the commemoration of the Haymarket Massacre, and celebrated around the world for the powerful legacies of working people the world over who have shaped history.

The Afro Yaqui Music Collective is a 13 piece orchestra whose members span four continents. The group incorporates several of the world’s indigenous musical traditions, including the Yaqui of Northern Mexico, a group where operatic soprano Gizelxanath (2014 Ace Latin Awards Winner) hails from. Physics defying orchestral arrangements and impossible performances combine with a clarion call for social and ecological justice that leaves an indelible impression for the bold listeners who attend performances. Special guest by way of New York Nejma Shea, a powerful and unique multi~media Hip Hop performer, poet, cultural producer, sound designer, and revolutionary artist, will be joining the band.

The Afro Yaqui Music Collective will be joined by The Lowdown Brass Band(LDB) who breaks the barrier between audience and performer with their live show, which features dynamic vocalists, hip-hop MCs, and body movement that gets any wallflower up and on their feet. The Lowdown Brass Band has performed at some of the premier venues and festivals in Chicago, throughout the United States, and across the globe, including: The Metro, Double Door, Lincoln Hall, Schuba’s, House of Blues, Cubby Bear, The Promontory, Hideout, Andyʼs Jazz Club, Cliff Bell’s, Taste of Chicago, Wakarusa, Meijer Gardens, and the Cotai Jazz and Blues Festival. The LDB has had the pleasure of sharing the stage with such artists as: Lake Street Dive, G Love and the Special Sauce, Dumpstaphunk, The Stooges Brass Band, Ricky B, Wycliffe Gordon, Bonerama, JC Brooks & the Uptown Sound, The O’ Myʼs, and The Drastics.
