Chin To The Sky: The Life Sentence Of Avis Lee

The content on this page is provided by a Time Out partner.

Chin to the Sky is a multi-media creative storytelling of the circumstances surrounding the Life Sentence of Avis Lee. When Avis was 18 she was the look out in a robbery that ended in death. Avis is now 54 years old and has spent 34 years in prison. She has no chance of getting out unless her sentence is commuted. She never pulled the trigger. We believe she deserves a second chance. We hope to bring Avis’s story from behind the prison walls and raise awareness about the murder felony rule in Pennsylvania. Written by Avis Lee this production is the story of over 5,000 inmates in PA and that number is increasing as mass incarceration robs Black communities of their family members. Let us stand in solidarity with Avis and support those who the system has attempted to cast away and dehumanize. This production is sponsored by New Voices Pittsburgh: Women of Color for Reproductive Justice and the Let’s Get Free: The Women and Trans Prisoners Defense Committee as a part of Women of Color HERStory Month Tickets are $10-$25 sliding scale. No one will be turned away for lack of funds. You can also purchase tickets on eventbrite here: Please call 412.363.4500 or email for more information.
