Fri., Sept. 16, from 7 – 9 p.m., challenge the traditional metal-and-mortar view of city life with Green Planet Films’ inspiring documentary, The Nature of Cities. Embark on a journey with Tim Beatley, a Sustainable Communities professor at the University of Virginia, as he traverses the globe highlighting cities whose jaw-dropping, unexpected natural wonders enrich the lives of all their inhabitants. From Austin and San Diego all the way to Copenhagen, Stockholm and Paris, Beatley engages city planners, landscape architects, ecologists and residents in conversation about the innate connection between people and nature, and what some cities are doing — and what others can do in the future — to enhance that connection to the fullest. Beatley — who is also the founder of The Biophilic Cities Project – will join other professionals on a panel that will lead an immersive discussion after the film.

Screenings for the Environmental Film Series take place on the third Friday of every month from 7 – 9 p.m. in the Botany Hall Auditorium at Phipps. Attendance to these screenings is free with regular admission, but tickets are required; please pick up your free tickets in the Welcome Center starting at 5 p.m. on the day of the film.
