Old meets new in this exciting collaboration with Cello Fury, Baroque flutist Stephen Schultz, Pittsburgh composer Nancy Galbraith, pianist Uliana Kozhevnikova, and our Resonance Chamber Orchestra under the baton of Artistic Director Maria Sensi Sellner.

The rock-star cellists of Cello Fury bring their visceral energy to a 300-year old masterwork - Vivaldi's brilliant double concerto in G minor, while Nancy Galbraith brings a historical instrument to the music of today. Effervescent Air and Other Sun were written specifically for world-renowned Baroque flutist Stephen Schultz, who’s known for combining 18th century music with new works, and both pieces utilize electro-acoustic elements. Other Sun, premiered in 2006, also featured the cross-genre Cello Fury. Galbraith renews this piece for these performances, creating a new expanded orchestration including our Resonance Chamber Orchestra.

Stravinsky also reached back several centuries with his "Dumbarton Oaks” Concerto, and admitted that he may have borrowed a theme from the third Brandenburg Concerto, but he was confident that "Bach would most certainly have been delighted to loan it to me; to borrow in this way was exactly the sort of thing he liked to do."
