Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens says
Join us as we celebrate summer’s bounty at our 11th annual Red, Ripe and Roasted tomato and garlic festival. Held on the front lawn and in the Outdoor Garden, the free event features cooking demos, a tomato contest, kids’ activities and farmers offering locally grown produce — all to benefit the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank.

Be sure to stop by for cooking demonstrations at the following times:

11 a.m. — Miriam Rubin, food writer and columnist, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
Noon — Doug Oster, Home and Garden editor, Pittsburgh Tribune-Review
1 p.m. — Justine Barr, nutrition educator, Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank
2 p.m. — Amy Reed, head chef, Café Phipps

In addition, farm vendors will offer local produce for sale, giving guests an opportunity to buy plenty of tomatoes, garlic and other produce to experiment with at home or donate to the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank. The following vendors are scheduled to attend:

For even more fun, gardeners are also invited to enter their smallest, largest and ugliest tomatoes for a chance to win a contest prize.

Red, Ripe and Roasted is free to attend. By donating a bag of fresh produce for the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank, festival-goers will also be admitted for free to Phipps’ Summer Flower Show, which features weird and wonderful plants, from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. This offer only applies on Sunday, Aug. 30.
