Robert E. Jackson has collected photography since 1997. In the fall of 2007, his snapshot collection formed the basis of The National Gallery of Art’s show and catalog “The Art of the American Snapshot: 1888-1978”. His second book, “Pure Photography”, was published in 2011 by Ampersand Gallery & Fine Books in Portland, Oregon. The following year, Seattle based Marquand Books featured color snapshots owned by Jackson in the book “The Seduction of Color”. In June of 2013, Pace/MacGill in NYC mounted a show from his collection entitled “Snap Noir: Snapshot Stories”. Over twenty of his photos were included in the 2011 bestselling young adult book “Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children” by Ransom Riggs. In 2019, the Amon Carter Museum in Fort Worth, Texas will mount a show of 19th century and early 20th century U.S. cabinet cards which will feature some of Jackson’s collection in that medium along with other images the museum has acquired.
