How healthy is your own garden soil? Visitors are invited to bring in 1–2 cups of soil in a sturdy zipper-locked clear plastic bag to find out. At our Super Science Stations you can test for soil texture, pH, microorganisms and more!

Pittsburgh Puppetworks presents Go Green to Beat the ‘Burgh Blues
First floor in Earth Theater

A little girl’s visit to a zoo in Pittsburgh turns into a daydream around the planet as she meets animals from 7 different struggling ecosystems. Can they teach her to spread environmental awareness and take steps to reduce her own carbon footprint before Pittsburgh becomes uninhabitable?

Symphony of the Soil
First floor in Earth Theater
Drawing from ancient knowledge and cutting edge science, Symphony of the Soil is an artistic exploration of the miraculous substance soil. By understanding the elaborate relationships between soil, water, the atmosphere, plants and animals, we come to appreciate the dynamic nature of this precious resource. The film also examines our human relationship with soil, the use and misuse of soil in agriculture, deforestation and development, and the latest scientific research on soil’s key role in ameliorating the most challenging environmental issues of our time.
