The first incarnation of Sylvania was formed by Vocalist Zach Geraci and Guitarist Brenden Harrison during their junior year of high school. After playing a few open mic nights in and around Pittsburgh and burning through multiple ill-fated rhythm sections, the band was introduced to Drummer Nathan Orr and Rhythm Guitarist Zach Cain in May of 2013. After a few months of getting to know each other and writing music, Sylvania played its virgin shows as a four-piece with Zach Cain filling in on bass instead of guitar. After continually writing and practicing without a bassist, Kyle Prendergast was inaugurated as the band's permanent bassist in December of Sylvania's first year, playing his first show with the band on December 13th, 2013 at Stage AE.

Sylvania continued to write and play shows at many of the prominent venues in the Pittsburgh area, such as The Hollywood Theater, Stage AE, Mr. Smalls Theater, The Mr. Roboto Project, The Keynote Cafe, and The Rex Theater through all of 2014, molding and crafting their sound into something that set them apart from the other local bands in Pittsburgh. Then in early 2015, after a year of being a 5-piece band based primarily in hard rock, Sylvania decided to take another experimental step and brought in their newest, youngest member Organist Ryan Killen. As of March 2015, the band is hard at work in the studio recording an EP due for a special release in the near future. Along with their EP, Sylvania has various shows scheduled in Pittsburgh and some surrounding cities.
