With a distinct fusion of rock, folk, and Americana, the music of the Deceptions captivates the audience with mature lyrics and diverse musicality. Their songs illustrate the distinct lyrical styling of songwriters Jared Fretz and Dan Krofcheck. This tandem has produced a vast catalog of original titles, and has brought to life honest stories about transformation, uncertainty, new beginnings, and sometimes heartrending endings. Their sound is influenced by a multitude of artists including The Band, Wilco, the Grateful Dead, the Counting Crows, Johnny Cash, The Jayhawks, and Neil Young.
The band's first full-length album, Sinner's Soul, was independently released in November 2009. The 10 track LP was recorded under the direction of engineer Doug Kasper at Soundscape Studios (Anti-Flag, Vibro-Kings). Following a year-long hiatus, the band has released Tall Tales from Green Meadow. The 14-song LP was recorded at Walnut Studio in Greensburg, PA and mastered by Garrett Haines at Tree Lady Studios. The record is a depature from the introspective tone of Sinner's Soul. Tall Tales embraces the accessibility and humility of North American roots music; their stories capture the lighter elements of the characters without shying away from the harsh truths of the working class.
