Sticks & Stones presents: Jaquelyn Cruz

Jaquelyn gives space to appreciate the divine structure, textures, and color palettes found in nature, paired with industrial and domestic treasures in their varied stages of degradation. With respect for simplicity and intricacy in balance. She is a multimedia artist speaking through wood burning, stains, metal, stone, soft pastels, and a variety of paints ranging from watercolor, ink, and acrylic, to spray paint and oil. Influenced by her upbringing in the Arizona desert, along with the encouragement and example of her endlessly creative grandfather Eddie Zavala (Aug 3, 1935- Feb 17, 2017). With a prominent gratitude for her origins this collection presents us with patterns and geometry that mingle with organic textures and surreal imagery on materials reborn.

To accompany the artwork, S&S and Mulu (DUG collective) collaborated to feature live performances from the following:

Maxime (Max Tanti).
Singer-songwriter and guitarist.

Mat Randol.
Mat is a hip-hop artist from North Portland’s St. John’s neighborhood. His style of rap continues to rise from the depths of rarity and into mainstream appreciation. With a sound that can be described as heavy and impactful, yet effortless and melodic, it’s Mat’s recognizable tone of voice, delivery, and vulnerability that has managed to keep him from falling into a whirlpool of being just another “up-and-coming” artist.

Sounds provided all night by DJ extraordinaire, Professor Ugly.

Come celebrate art and local music in fantastic First Thursday style!
