Salmon and Bear

Salmon and Bear

Salmon and Bear specialise in fish charcoal grilled on the Mibrasa oven, and served in a Zetland venue with an Alaskan log cabin ambience.  Heard of poké? It's is Hawaiian for 'sections' and refers to cubes of raw fish. At Salmon and Bear, they’ve got two types of poké – salmon and tuna – which they serve with coconut rice and an array of Asian greens. The place is the project of chef Mark Jensen (Red Lantern on Riley) along with partners Joe Ward and Joe Katz. Jensen is offering fish tacos, fish burgers, salads and the Grizzly Plate – your choice of grilled fish plus sauce and two salads or sides. And here's the kicker: the two desserts ($7) are by Gelato Messina – a chocolate gelato cookie sandwich and a strawberry gelato white chocolate paddle pop.

Youeni

Youeni

In line with the current trend for eating healthily, Youeni has jumped on board and is setting the bar for doing so without sacrificing taste. They serve breakfast, light lunches and pastries made onsite – which you’ll know as soon as you walk through the door, given the sweet, yeasty smells wafting from the kitchen. With a large, open-style eating area, and seating upstairs, Youeni is an awesome option if you want to try something a bit out of the ordinary. Their breakfast menu includes pumpkin pie buckwheat pancakes, and their four-hour slow roasted lamb sandwich at lunch is definitely worth a look in. For healthy food and a solid vibe, Youeni is the place to go.

The Local Trade

The Local Trade

A new café has opened up in Kellyville, and it goes by the name of the Local Trade Café. The 60-seat café serves up breakfast and lunch, and they pride themselves in using fresh, local produce. Their menu is inspired by Turkish cuisine, with dishes like their corn, zucchini and chicken fritters served with babaghanoush and tahini dressing. And if you're looking for something a bit heartier, the slow roasted lamb roll with tabbouleh and caramelised onion will see you right. Situated right next to an indoor playground, it’s super family-friendly too. “A big part of our business is keeping families happy,” says Derin Unutmaz, who owns Local Trade with his wife Estelle. So whether you’re staying for a long lunch or stopping in to grab a bite or a coffee on the run, staff will make you – and the kids – feel right at ease. For Unutmaz, he just wants you to leave feeling “full and satisfied” – and you’re sure to be if you hit up this café any time soon.
