Immigration Talk says
The Sacramento Activist School invites you to a talk on immigration by Jim Smith.

"My talk will be on the origins of the so-called "refugee crisis" not in the Middle East but on the US Southern border where since 2014; tens of thousands have attempted to enter the US without papers or have asked for political asylum. There are more than 40,000 such applications from Mexico alone. Thousands are from the Northern Triangle Countries of Central America (Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala)

I am a retired professor from UC Davis Law School where I directed the Immigration Law Clinic from 1982-2007. The Clinic handled thousands of Central American asylum claims in the 1980s and 1990s fleeing civil wars and death squads. Now a second generation of refugees fleeing gangs and criminal insurgencies (shadow governments) is occurring.

I will attempt to describe these events and the causes including the militarization of the war or drugs and the emergence of criminal insurgencies in Mexico and the Northern Triangle for 30 minutes and then open it up for discussion." Jim Smith
