Crocker Art Museum says
Starring Marilyn Monroe and Clark Gable, written by Arthur Miller, and directed by John Houston, "The Misfits" leaps off the screen with passion, drama, and sheer star power. The story of a recently divorced woman in a bourgeoning relationship with an aging cowboy in the heat of the Nevada desert, "The Misfits" is the final film for both Gable, who died days after filming ended, and Monroe, who succumbed to an overdose the following year. Both give legendary performances, and "The Misfits" is now considered one of the great films of its era.

The Summer Film Series returns, this year showcasing the power of black and white. Discover how directors have used this monochromatic style – by choice or by necessity – to achieve a variety of effects, and explore each film alongside local film historian Jacob Greenberg. A black-and-white short film will precede each screening.
