About the artist:
William Engel

William Engel is a long time faculty member of the New York School of Interior Design and paints in a studio in the Chelsea District of New York and summers in San Diego where he has an additional studio in Hillcrest. His course, Advanced Color, written by himself is a Masters-MFA and BFA level course at the New York School of Interior Design.

"I have been pouring paint for more than twenty five years. Sometimes the pours are about landscapes of my mind and involve a process of twenty poured colors at once and built up layer over layer, over three months. I have also been exploring the idea of more modern works with only one clean pour per week and layered in spatial configurations that conclude in a design of asymmetric balance. The surfaces of buttery oils are layered over the course of three months for each work. I am inspired by the work of Helen Frankenthaler, Frank Gehry and Richard Diebenkorn, and continue to layer and pour paint using gravity as my brush."

He has been sought by New York interior designers such as In Situ Design, Lilian B. Interiors, Richard Keith Langham, Charles Pavarini III, Robert Kaner Design, and Ageloff Associates, and has produced commissioned works of art for their site-specific residences in New York City and the Hamptons, and clients across the country.

Among others, his work has been installed in the Corporate Lobby of Time Warner on Columbus Circle in New York City, in the Collection of Shering-Plough Headquarters in New Jersey and The New York School of Interior Design, and the William Hotel in midtown Manhattan. His work is in the estate of the late Whitney Houston.
