Artist Bio:
Tara de la Garza was born in Ireland and grew up in Australia. She now lives in California. She studied Film and Television, winning a Young Filmmaker award and established an award winning graphic design agency. She studied Fine Art (painting) at Curtin University in Australia. She exhibits in New York, California and Australia and runs a contemporary art space called The Frank.

Tara de la Garza describes her work as ‘Irreverent Observation’. Taking nothing for granted, each piece is a portal through which a viewer may encounter an alternative perspective. In this sense, nothing here is random or a mistake, but an opportunity to explore the world in a less conventional manner.

With her collage work, Tara distorts elements of nature by creating new creatures, loosely based on the aesthetic of the exquisite corpse. There may be a head, torso and legs but this is just the starting point to create new and unique imagery. In this class we will find images in magazines, cut them out using a scalpel and create new forms that we then glue to a page. Each participant should have a final artwork and the tools to create more by the end of the workshop.
