Downtown At Sundown says
Visual and performing arts converge at MCASD Downtown’s after-hours offering: Downtown at Sundown. On the third Thursday of every month from 5 to 8 PM, Downtown at Sundown offers FREE Museum admission, exhibition tours, DJ-spun tunes, free entry at SDSU Downtown Gallery, drink specials at the Stone Brewing Company Store and The Flight Path Wine Bar & Bistro, The Book Truck, and so much more.

At this Downtown at Sundown guests will enjoy two 15-minute sets by Swedish performance group Europa Europa in the MCASD galleries. Europa Europa is a unique performance and art experience about one of the greatest humanitarian disaster of our time: migration politics. This energetic agit-pop concert is filled with political satire and strong messages inspired by the identity and genre transcending cabaret of the 1920s. Joined by queer-feminist/postcolonial group FUL, and exclusive music by Swedish electro-duo The Knife, this one-of-a-kind experience is not to be missed.

At the San Diego State University Downtown Gallery, guests will enjoy an opening reception for Sandow Birk: Depravities & Monuments. The exhibition features a selection of artworks from two major series by Sandow Birk. The Depravities of War, comprising a suite of monumental woodcuts, proffers a critique of the Iraq war and its aftermath. Imaginary Monuments, consisting of large drawings and etchings, proposes public memorials to agreements, treaties, and institutions of our contemporary world. Sandow Birk will be present for the opening reception.

The Grater Grilled Cheese food truck will also be on hand serving delicious grilled cheese sandwiches in the Museum’s B Street Alley.
