Engineering Brigades volunteers will work with local engineers, technicians and community members in Honduras to assess water problems and select feasible solutions this summer. One of the fundamental roadblocks to community development is lack of education and expertise to be able to implement water infrastructure. Without a plan and design, water systems either never get built or fail when they are. As a result, community members consume contaminated water which is a catalyst in the vicious cycle of chronic illness, compounded by limited access to medical care for rural populations. With a infrastructure providing a sustainable and sufficient quantity of properly treated water, community members can cut off the connection between water and illness and ultimately live healthier, more productive lives. This is a life changing trip for not only the community in Honduras, but also the students participating.
