The North American Sommelier Association announces open enrollment in the Italian Wine Specialist ® certification program recognized throughout the world and endorsed by the WSA (Worldwide Sommelier Association).

The Italian Wine Specialist® certification course has been given in the United States since 2006 - NASA's course is the original and authentic course on Italian wine available for both enthusiasts and professionals. The Italian Wine Specialist® explores all 20 wine regions of Italy, DOCs/DOCGs, wine laws, production regulations, grape varieties, traditions, trends, history, typicality and brief overviews of cuisine and culture of the regions.

The teachers are WSA/AIS/NASA Certified Sommelier Instructors, the most credible authorities on Italian wine education in the United States. Instructors are native to and experts in the regions they teach, giving students first-hand knowledge and detail not found in any other course on Italian wine.

The course consists of 24 hours (4 days) of class time and tasting, with a final written exam (5th day) required to achieve the certificate, issued by the North American Sommelier Association and recognized internationally by the Worldwide Sommelier Association. Enrollment includes the following materials:

- An Overview of Italian Wine coursebook (published by NASA, updated frequently)
- Wine color chart, wine tasting grid
- Tasting of over 30 quality wines from all regions of Italy
- Certification from both the WSA and NASA upon completion of course, and passing of exam
- Lapel pin to signify certified graduate is an Italian Wine Specialist ®
- Promotional NASA membership for 2016

This course requires no previous wine knowledge, though a minimum knowledge of wine and tasting experience is strongly recommended. Students of our Certifications course are encouraged to take the Wine Primer Basics Course to get up to speed on fundamentals of wine.
