Mr. Benja's Ice Cream Social says

Join us for some delicious Hawaiian ice cream and a solo exhibition by local artist Mr. Benja!

After working in video games for more than a decade, I have developed a view of the popular gaming medium that I now express through my art. Every painting I create is a conversation between reality and fantasy, playful and serious, temporal and eternal, and other dualities. Ultimately, I work to create pieces that will find meanings and contexts for viewers over time.
The use of videogame iconography represents the viewpoint of life as a game (or games as life). Each painting is intentionally structured to be interpreted (or played with) in a variety of ways while adding to the overall narrative.

For his debut solo showing at Hammond's Gourmet Ice Cream in North Park, San Diego, Mr. Benja will showcase his presentation of games as ice cream flavors frames art as an entertaining treat. The parallels go further when one considers games as an escape, much in the same way that ice cream shops are viewed as pleasant getaways.

Mr Benja (Benjamin Johnson) is a Southern California fine artist that creates paintings by illustrating video game iconography on top of collaged periodicals. This method is used to examine life by juxtaposing playful concepts with real-life media.
After debuting in San Diego's Industry Showroom, Mr. Benja has shown his artwork in contemporary galleries including Thumbprint Gallery in La Jolla, Giant Robot in Los Angeles, and the Ltd Gallery in Seattle, as well as representing at art functions for events such as the San Diego Comic Con, E3, and PAX (Boston). After gaining initial favor with the tech and gaming communities, his art has attracted the attention of a wide range of supporters in the art community.

Mr. Benja is self-taught art from a young age with assistance from his father, a portrait artist and sign painter. He currently resides in Los Angeles where he continues to develop his craft.
