Reproductive Justice Meeting Notes says
Mark your calendars – the second annual Reproductive Justice Thrift Store Fashion Show will be Saturday, April 11. Please consider volunteering for one of the many fun tasks. Contact Elaine Twamley or Colleen Garrett.
Welcome and check-in by all present. We were pleased to have several new people attend the meeting.
Status Updates
The Roe v Wade Anniversary Celebration was held Thursday, Jan. 22, 2015. Karen asked Rev. Kathleen Owens to accept the Defender of Justice award on behalf of the church and the Reproductive Justice Action Group.
Mina Taylor and Betsy Stevens have been working on a revision of the Reproductive Justice Curriculum and will condense the material so that it can be presented in a one-day workshop to be offered this spring or in the fall.
Budget – as a result of our fashion show last spring, we have a reserve of $805.07. We are using some of these funds to provide scholarship for the Roe v Wade dinner.
Days for Girls – Karen Hayes has provided us with a sample hygiene kit which will be shared with the Craft Affinity Group. Elaine offered information about other organizations addressing the need for sanitary hygiene alternatives. Our reproductive justice members are in agreement that any efforts we join must involve leaders from the local community. Meg will research other international efforts that address the needs of girls who are unable to attend school during their menstrual cycle.
Documentary Screening

The Coalition for Reproductive Justice will show the documentary film “Vessel” at First Church on Thursday, March 12, 2015. The film follows a Dutch physician who is dedicated to providing reproductive health care and abortions to women living in countries where the procedure is illegal. Together with several colleagues she has purchased a ship that brings women into international waters where they can receive oral medication. This procedure is only available to women who are less than 9 weeks pregnant.
Fashion Show Fundraiser
We will hold a second fashion show on Saturday, April 11 at 1:00 pm. Elaine and Colleen are co-chairs and other members of the Reproductive Justice Action Group volunteered to publicize the event and sell tickets during March. We will once again model thrift store fashions.
