Brian Ellis' Reflection

DJs Hotthobo, PWC & Lil Smiley

The Modern Funk Fest is returning back to San Diego for the second time on Thursday, April 28thth, 2016. The first large scale event of its kind, the Modern Funk Fest pulls together the best live acts, djs and labels focusing on the modern funk sound; giving full respect and admiration to the decades of funk/boogie music that has come before, while showcasing the newest sounds and sights to emerge from that scene. This event initially started in San Diego at the Til Two Club, with amazing performances, a perfect vibe, an ideal line-up and a night with a very receptive and hungry audience. After putting other notches in the MFF belt, most recently with a large event at the Elbo Room in San Francisco and also in Los Angeles at Jewel’s Catch One, the Modern Funk Fest is now ready to return to the Til Two Club again.

Psychic Mirrors
Psychic Mirrors is a six-piece band from Miami, FL; formed in 2010. Their music is an amalgam of boogie funk, yacht rock and wavy synth jazz. Known for tracks like “I Come for Your Love,” “The Witching Hour” and “Charlene,” the group began cutting singles on their home label Cosmic Chronic in 2011, ultimately gaining the attention of Peoples Potential Unlimited and Red Bull Music Academy (where bandleader Mickey de Grand IV spent October of 2014 participating in RBMA Tokyo). Following the release of their debut LP Nature of Evil in April 2016, the ensemble will be making their way across the US and Canada to showcase their modern Caribbean sound.

Brian Ellis’ Reflection
Hailing from Escondido, CA, Brian Ellis is set on a mission to push authentic drum machine synthesizer funk to the livest, rawest level. His gear list is strong, his output is prolific, and his work ethic is unrivaled…armed with his oberheim DX, oberheim Matrix-1000, Roland SVC-350 Vocoder, and an arsenal of various guitars, synths, and outboard effects, Brian and his group Reflection (a modern funk group founded by Brian Ellis alongside brothers Adam Chini and Jordan Chini, and drummer Andrew Satterlee) are ready to unleash an array of utterly devastating jams onto the dancefloor.

Randy "Hotthobo" Ellis is a co-owner and label manager of Voltaire and Hobo Camp Records and in California, and a frequent contributor/collaborator to Loose Shus, Elegant Borzoi, and Chautauqua. As a dj his 100% vinyl sets journey deep into an abyss of new, classic, and obscure 12" and 7" records, with a focus toward high-end boogie, disco, two step, sweet soul, italo, house and modern funk.
