Dr. Nicolas Reveles, San Diego Opera’s Director of Education and Community Engagement, and Dr. Jeff Nevin, Professor of Music and Director of Mariachi Activities at Southwestern College, will explore the history and the art of mariachi. How did the mariachi style begin? What are the elements that make up mariachi? What are the different dances represented in the style? How is the mariachi style used in El Pasado Nunca Se Termina to tell a wonderful story about lovers and freedom fighters, scandal and heroism, and the legacy of our ancestors that lives in us all?
