San Diego Art Institute says
The San Diego Art Institute (SDAI) is pleased to announce the launch of the 2017 “Artist Picked Flicks” film series on Wednesday, January 25th from 6pm-8pm with a screening of "The Holy Mountain". The screenings will take place at San Diego Art Institute, 1439 El Prado, San Diego, CA 92101. Admission is $5.

Cinema has offered an infinite number of inspiring moments to artists of all types. Be it writing, directing, cinematography, or acting, film and its elements are often referred to as a source for contemporary artists to draw from. Through 2017, SDAI has invited artists and curators to share one film that has directly inspired their individual practices.

The series will commence with renowned director and mystic Alejandro Jodorowsky’s seminal film The Holy Mountain. Introduced by SDAI Executive Director Ginger Shulick Porcella, The Holy Mountain is described by Porcella as “required viewing for every MFA candidate”. Prior to the screening, Porcella will discuss why The Holy Mountain holds significance to her and her curatorial practice.

Each screening will commence with a brief discussion, and adult beverages will be available for purchase.

Additional films in the 2017 “Artist Picked Flicks” series include:
Welcome to the Dollhouse, Todd Solondz (introduced by Lissa Corona)
Troll 2, Claudio Fragasso, (introduced by Jeremy Zierau)
Women Without Men, Shirin Neshat (introduced by Michelle Montjoy)
