A couple of blocks from the heart of the Castro, this smartly renovated Victorian (with an Edwardian annex) caters to gay and lesbian travellers, but everyone is welcome. Most rooms have private baths, and all have homey, contemporary decor. There are slight variations in amenities (dataports, desk sizes, shower versus bath), so let the hotel know if you have special requests. On sunny days the English gardens provide a nice respite from the bustling street scene, which also spills over into nearby Dolores Park (best avoided at night). Continental breakfast, free internet access and a wine social are included.
