After working for Chez Panisse, Sylvan Mishima Brackett opened Rintaro, which weaves together this experience with his Japanese heritage. Rintaro is inspired by the bustling izakayas in Japan and Mishima Brackett’s memories of his Japanese mother’s cooking in Northern California. Rintaro serves the foods of the Japanese izakaya, incorporating special ingredients from Japan with beautiful locally raised meats and organic vegetables from farms around the Bay Area, as well as fish from off the California coast. The restaurant space equally reflects this unique experience; with hand-planed woodwork and mud plaster taken from the hills near Mishima Brackett’s childhood home.
