Yogi Colleen says
The full moon is a time to release what no longer serves us, inviting an expansion of our minds and bodies. During the cycle of the moon each month, we can use the new moon to plant seeds of intention, and revisit again at the height of full moon so that they might come to fruition. It is a time for reflection and breath.
We'll practice moon salutations and a slower, more meditative flow. In moon salutations we move side to side instead of front to back, completing a circle with each round. This nurturing flow is perfect to practice during the full moon, allowing us to connect to a more feminine, cooling part of our practice.
According to Hatha yoga, this lunar, feminine energy also resides within us. Whereas solar energy is warm, active, and outwardly oriented, lunar energy is cool, receptive, and inwardly focused.
The aim of Hatha yoga is to balance our lunar and solar energies, but many times our practice leans towards the the solar/ heating aspects. We often focus on sun salutations and heating practices in the quest for physical fitness.
The moon can teach us to slow down, listen to our own needs, and be receptive to change.
