Downtown Seattle Association says
IKEA will set up shop in Westlake Park on Saturday, Dec. 10 with living room and dining room displays modeled in the iconic Swedish retailer’s signature style, and sample Swedish treats. But sofas, chairs, tables, organizers and decorations won’t be for sale at the end of the day. Instead, these items will be put to use to create a cozy space for families experiencing homelessness. Ikea will donate the furniture to Mary’s Place, a leading voice for homeless women, children, and families, providing those in need with shelter, nourishment and stability. IKEA will also be donating a $1,000 gift card and toys to Treehouse, a Seattle non-profit focused on giving foster kids a childhood and a future.

In addition to donating furniture, IKEA will also hand out the KAMRATLIG soft toy on Dec. 10 to the first 500 children who ride DSA’s holiday carousel, presented this year by IKEA in partnership with KING-5. What’s a “KAMRATLIG” you ask? Well, it’s a soft, red heart-shaped toy that’s built for hugging. Sounds perfect for the holidays.
