Abmeyer + Wood says
"Soothsayer" marks the first West Coast exhibition for Brooklyn-based Kymia Nawabi. In this exhibition Nawabi sustains themes that she began exploring during her Brooklyn Museum solo show "Not For Long My Forlorn" (2011-2012) - centered around a hyper-awareness of mortality. Having been raised without religion Nawabi built a personal belief system based on studies of Greek and Egyptian mythology, alchemy and various world religions. The results of these studies make their way into Nawabi's work: shrouded figures, esoteric talismans and mythological beasts inhabit these highly symbolic allegorical mixed-media paintings and drawings.

Join us Saturday, September 5th to talk with Kymia Nawabi and learn more about the themes, symbolism and methods that helped bring "Soothsayer" to life.
