About the slam:
Individual World Poetry Slam (IWPS) is a performance poetry competition, designed for an individual poet. Poets from all over the world compete in this competition. In these slams, poets have a different time limit in every round.

Poets must have a four minute, three minute, two minute, and one minute poems to compete. A ten second grace period is added to each limit.

The winner of the FINALS after these preliminaries will represent Seattle Poetry Slam at Individual World Poetry Slam in Washington D.C. in October!

About the Featured Poet:
Maya Hersh is a 3 time member and 2 time coach of the Seattle Poetry Slam team, and the current coach of the Rain City Slam team. She has competed nationally more times than she can count, and has been making chapbooks since she did it on her dad's copier with glue and magazine cutouts. She has been published in Pangaia magazine, featured on CBS and NPR and once made the front page of her home town newspaper, but not for poetry.
