Troy E. Wright President of The Trayvon Martin Foundation (TMF) selected Seattle as one of the recipient cities of the 20 scholarships in 20 cities initiative by 2016. One of the goals of The Foundation is to provide education opportunities to inner-city youth. This was accomplished by establishing partnerships with community, state, and private colleges as well as grassroots organizations. The Trayvon Martin Foundation was established by Sybrina Fulton and Tracy Martin parents of Trayvon Martin in March 2012 as a not-for-profit organization under the auspices of the Miami Foundation. The Foundation’s purpose is to create awareness of how violent crime impacts our world and to provide support, advocacy and education to inner-city families.

The TMF President will make a formal announcement of the Initiative and introduce their local community partners, Extraordinary Futures, Young Urban Authors and You Grow Girl!, who have been selected to launch the Seattle Network for the Education Initiative at the Seattle’s Justice and Peace Mixer on Tuesday, May 19, 2015 at the Columbia City Gallery. Proceeds raised from this event will go towards sending representatives from the Seattle Network as well as twenty Seattle youth to Miami, Florida for the upcoming Youth Empowerment & Solutions (Y.E.S.) Conference October 22-24, 2015 and provide scholarships to Seattle youth.
