Cornish Presents says
Padmashri Umakant Gundecha and Padmashri Ramakant Gundecha present a Dhrupad vocal concert accompanied by Pandit Akhilesh Gundecha on the pakhawaj.

Padmashri Gundecha Brothers are widely recognized as the torchbearers of the Dhrupad tradition and the foremost authority of the intricacies and nuances of this already highly nuanced form of music. They have taken Dhrupad to new heights with their innovative presentation, while strongly maintaining a hold on the core principles. Gundecha Brothers perform in the jugalbandi style. Almost eerily in tune with each other, the Brothers perform the improvisations in Dhrupad (aalaps) singing both together and back and forth at four different speeds. Like a kaleidoscope of sound, their voices merge in fascinating and ever-changing combinations.

Having explored a raga (ancient intervals of notes sung through the centuries) in this manner, they present compositions set to the same raga accompanied to the rhythmic beat of the pakhawaj. Together, they create mind bending improvisations to rhythm.

Co-presented with Dhrupad Music Institute of America.
