WGAS- We Give A Shit says
It is time to plan our next montly Homeless We Give A Shit event. If we all bring something we can make yummy meal packs for those in dire need to show them someone cares. I will post a list of items that are good ideas for the meal bags and hygiene packs. Starting this month we will be creating a pledge list for a Costco Run. If you would like to pledge a amount and drop it off beforehand or the day of at the Crescent just let me know. I will post a copy of the reciepts so everyone can see what your money has bought. Thank You!

Once a month we are meeting to create food/supply bags for the homeless. If we can get everyone on board to just bring one item for 80 food bags we can help give 80 people a meal to start. It feels so good to hand someone a bag, showing them we give a shit about them and they are not forgotten. We have 2 donation bins at the Crescent.

If you have a vehicle and can help drive us downtown to hand out the bags that would be amazing as well.

-Perishable food items are great but have to be brought in the day of or a couple days before event so they don't go bad. We make sandwichs the day of and label them in case of food alergies. Bottled waters are good because the containers along with the bags can be used to keep things dry and protected in the weather. That is why we are using large Ziplock bags as well. They make great storage pouches as second use. Soft and hard foods need to be available because many homeless people have health issues and some can't chew on something hard. Examples are Bananas, cucumbers, chewy snack bars, string cheese, oranges, ect. We try and get a mix of things.

-Hygene Products like toothbrushes, toothpaste, lotions, chap stick, band aids, tampons, q-tips, dental, ect. I was told to hold off of the shampoo and condition and to donate those direction to places that are for homeless showers like urban reststop. Most people don't keep the shampoo and conditioner because any place they go to shower will have them, better to donate directly to the source. You name it and it is something someone out there doesn't have and needs.

Before the Event I will post a list confirming what everyone is bringing or has donated so far. Thank You.

Update: You can talk to your dentist about getting any extra toothbrushes, floss ect. Also if there are any hardcore pet lovers out there it would be awesome if we could go to the pet stores and get any of the free food samples the companies give them. They are great for homeless with pets.

Also this last month there was a huge request for more everyday clothes including jeans, hoodies, ect. If you want to donate anything please dont hesitate to drop them off at the Crescent in the Big Donation Bins on the Stage.
