Kruger National Park is one of the world’s most renowned game parks, and the experience goes beyond the exciting wildlife encounters.

The park’s many facilities give visitors from around the world a chance to relax and enjoy the natural setting between game drives.

Now, visitors can look forward to a refreshed dining offering, with new restaurant operators appointed at several of the park’s popular camps.

South African National Parks (SANParks) has confirmed that new hospitality concepts and a refurbishment are on the cards for select sites. The changes follow a competitive tender process and the expiry of previous concession agreements.

What’s changing at Kruger’s restaurants?

The new operators will introduce fresh dining concepts at selected rest camps, bringing variety to the food and hospitality offering across the park.

Here’s what you can expect:

  • Lower Sabie: The former Mugg & Bean will return as Sabie River Café.
  • Pretoriuskop: Wimpy will be replaced by Le Lapeng Burgers and Grill.
  • Berg-en-Dal: Tindlovu Restaurant will be transformed into Eziko Eatery.
  • Skukuza: Cattle Baron will undergo refurbishment to deliver a refreshed look and feel.

The appointments are part of SANParks’ ongoing efforts to improve visitor experiences and invest in tourism facilities. The operators are also expected to contribute to economic growth and job creation.

Temporary dining facilities with limited menus will be available during refurbishment periods to maintain services where possible. Visitors should allow for some disruption while the upgrades are completed.

Why Kruger remains a must-visit destination

Covering nearly two million hectares, Kruger National Park is one of South Africa’s most celebrated wildlife destinations.

Its diverse landscapes support an extraordinary variety of plants and animals, while its historical and archaeological sites offer further reasons to explore beyond the usual safari route.

As one of SANParks’ flagship destinations, Kruger also plays a significant role in South Africa’s nature-based tourism economy. When you visit the park, you support the conservation work, tourism businesses and local communities connected to this important natural asset.

Kruger’s recovery after the floods

The restaurant developments come as Kruger continues to recover from severe flooding in January 2026, which damaged roads, bridges, tourism facilities, and staff accommodation.

Significant infrastructure work has been completed – or is near completion - including on the Letaba High-Level Bridge, Letaba Rest Camp, and culverts between Skukuza and Lower Sabie.
