These accommodation options in Malelane just outside the Kruger National Park are winners.

Thinking of heading to the Kruger National Park for a break? Lucky you!
However, given the popularity of the 'Best Place On Earth' (yes, it has been dubbed that - and I agree), you may struggle to find accommodation within the park, especially during busier periods like school holidays and long weekends.
All is not lost, though, if the park itself is booked out.
There are many incredible places to stay along the border of Kruger, with accommodation on the Crocodile River (the park's southern border) providing nature lovers with the next best thing.
For this particular article, I've done some digging, number crunching, and leopard crawling to bring you four spots in the Malelane area where you can get that Kruger hit without actually being inside the park.
All of the options hover around the R1,500 per night mark for two adults (please note that pricing is subject to change depending on demand).
Time Out Tip: These accommodation options are also ideal for those lucky enough to have a tee time at Leopard Creek.
Located 11km from Malelane Gate and set against the banks of the Crocodile River, River Cottage Lodge is the perfect spot for an extended stay or stopover if you're going to be a bit late getting to Kruger before the gates close. The swimming pool and viewing deck have stunning views into the Kruger, making sundowners a must. The apartments are cosy and offer all the amenities you'll need for a comfortable stay - including aircon for those scorching Lowveld summer days. If you're lucky, elephants are often seen right by the deck, so get those cameras ready!
This swanky lodge has all the class sans the hefty price tag. With a hearty breakfast included, Belvedere-On-River makes for a brilliant chill spot for a few days, with the incredible views into Kruger providing excellent game viewing from a comfy chair or the pool. Large herds of buffalo and elephants are frequently seen from the lookout deck, while those who love a beauty treatment can fully detach from the rigours of city life with a massage.
This adults-only accommodation is located 11km from Malelane Gate. It offers guests a memorable stay, with the swimming pool the perfect spot to look out for the game navigating the Crocodile River. The on-site restaurant hits all the right notes and offers more game viewing opportunities. If you have a spotlight, bring it along to try and spot some of the nocturnal critters that frequent the riverbed. All rooms offer air-conditioning, private bathrooms with walk-in showers, and balconies with either garden or pool views.
With various accommodation types (including self-catering) and located just 5km from the park, Kruger View Chalets is a popular spot to rest your head before continuing with your journey into Kruger. With a large swimming pool, a tranquil game-viewing deck, and an on-site restaurant, everything you need to immerse yourself in your bush break is on hand. Time Out Tip: Book the river view rooms for the most complete experience.
