Time Out says

Hugging the rugged, rocky coastline of Mallorca’s Colònia de Sant Jordi village, the Iberostar Selection Es Trenc hotel rises high above the resort town, offering unobstructed views of the nearby famous Es Trenc beach and the transparent turquoise waters surrounding the property.

Opened in April 2025, the 11-floor property underwent an extensive transformation in the multimillions, replacing the old THB Sur Mallorca with a five-star, sustainability-focused luxury hotel that marks the Iberostar brand’s 16th property in its native Mallorca. And if it’s a chic and tranquil Mediterranean stay you’re after, this is the beachfront resort for you.

What are the rooms like at Iberostar Selection Es Trenc?

First and foremost, yes, every single one of the 198 bedrooms and suites are decked out with expansive, floor-to-ceiling windows and private, furnished balconies overlooking that stunning seaside. But the breezy, modern lodgings are just as lovely inside as they are out, echoing the hotel’s marine setting with relaxing shades of sand and sage throughout, as well as stone surfaces and bleached wood that give the space a fresh, minimalist feel.

Thoughtful touches abound in each guestroom, including beach bags, yoga mats, hair tools (straighteners, hair dyers) and clothes steamers to use at your leisure. And if you opt for one of the higher-tier rooms, you can also personalize your sleep with a complimentary pillow menu, should you want to upgrade to a cloud-like feather, moldable memory form or supportive orthopedic option.

Multi-room suites are spacious with distinct living spaces and open-concept bathrooms; but while those would be comfortable options for a family, this particular Iberostar location skews toward traveling couples or quiet families with older, teenaged children. (If you’re looking for a more kid-friendly property, the Iberostar Selection Albufera Park is about an hour drive to the island’s northern coast and features many children-focused amenities, from a dedicated splash pool to camp programming.)

What is the food like at Iberostar Selection Es Trenc?

The thoughtful food-and-drink service kicks off upon check-in, with a refreshing grapefruit mocktail spotlighting natural salt sourced from the nearby Es Trenc salt flats along the rim, a welcome quencher after a 40-minute drive from Palma de Mallorca Airport. That saline theme is reprised throughout the property, from the onsite spa to the various bars.

Speaking of, there are two restaurants and three bars at the hotel. Of the former, there’s the ground-floor main buffet offering an expansive spread of Mallorcan and international dishes for both breakfast and dinner (made-to-order omelettes by day segue to pasta stations by night) and the more upscale, à la carte restaurant Salivent on the rooftop, serving Mediterranean plates centered on local seafood and seasonal vegetables for dinner and weekend lunch.

For snack over bites and cold starters washed down with a cocktail, seek out the lobby bar, the dedicated poolside bar or the S’Alt Rooftop terrace, with spectacular seaside views to go along with those sunset sips.

What are the facilities like at Iberostar Selection Es Trenc?

Sustainability is carefully considered throughout: The property runs exclusively on renewable energy; each guestroom is equipped with reusable glass water jugs that can be refilled at dedicated stations located on every floor (there are even bubbly options); and the plentiful bath amenities are all of the sulfate and paraben-free sort.

That eco-conscious dedication extends beyond the property into the community that surrounds the hotel. A unique feature of the brand, the Iberostar Group employs a full-time team of marine biologists and researchers to protect the ecosystems surrounding their hotel locations. Via its Wave of Change program, the group works to promote the area’s coastal health, including its native Posidonia seagrass, as well as overall zero-waste, sustainable tourism.

There’s also two pools; a state-of-the-art fitness center with both indoor and outdoor areas; a rooftop bar offering pre- and post-dinner drinks plus regular evening gigs from local DJs and live musicians; and a basic-but-serene spa offering holistic massages, body scrubs, beauty treatments and more. Bicycles are available for rental, as well as snorkelling gear and paddleboards to explore nearby beaches.

What’s the area like around Iberostar Selection Es Trenc?

The titular sandy beach is a 15-20 minute walk, conveniently via a beachside promenade, from the hotel; the local harbor and charming fishing village are only a 10-minute jaunt away. While there are some interesting attractions nearby – including Salines d’es Trenc, the island’s most famous producer of sea salt, whose marshes are located within the Natural Park – the Iberostar property is a bit isolated from the city center, though seclusion certainly feels the point here. If you do want to get out and explore the greater island, we encourage renting a car.

Why should you book a stay at Iberostar Selection Es Trenc?

If it’s refined relaxation and Spanish romance you’re after, you’ll find both at Iberostar Selection Es Trenc, blending luxury hospitality with an intimate feel and eco-conscious thoughtfulness.
