Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis says
IIn the early 1980s, a New York street culture of graffiti artists, b-boys, and MCs emerged. The new arts forms they created—often in direct opposition to city authorities—would influence the world as they evolved into hip-hop culture. Style Wars, Winner of the Grand Jury Prize for Documentary at the 1984 Sundance Film Festival, celebrates the pioneers of a nascent movement.

Victoria Donaldson, Visitor Services Manager at CAM, Cleo Jones of KDHX’s Rawthentic, and founder of Black Cinema Club will introduce the film and lead a post-screening discussion about the politics and controversies behind hip hop.
