Time Out says

This big festival in Zurich is held every three years, don't miss it!

Zurich's summer festival sees the city turned into a giant, car-free playground for young and old over three days in July. Established in 1973, Switzerland's biggest carnival is held once every three years. The 2016 Zurich Festival is shaping up to be bigger and better than ever, with around 2 million people expected to attend. The event takes place in central Zurich around the lake and rivers with market stalls lining the streets, stages with live entertainment, a Chilbi (funfair) centred on Sechseläutenplatz and a general festive atmosphere. Although millions of people are expected to show up, festival organisers have promised a less-crowded event than in 2013 by spreading the stalls out and improving access to the main throughfares. Regarless of whether you enjoy the press of happy revellers or not, do be sure to show up for the festival highlight of spectacular fireworks displays over Lake Zurich on Friday or Saturday nights.
