Anthropomorphic birds, giant salamanders and mystical dragons come together at Harajuku's Ota Museum, where a total of 160 animal-themed ukiyo-e are set to add a comedic touch to Tokyo's art lineup this spring. A recreation of a popular 2010 exhibition centred on the same topic, 'Animals in Ukiyo-e' includes pieces by woodblock print masters such as Hokusai, Hiroshige, Yoshitoshi, Suzuki Harunobu and Kyosai Kawanabe, in addition to several cat prints by the one and only Utagawa Kuniyoshi.
Note that the displayed works will be switched around between the first (April 1-26) and second (May 2-28) parts of the exhibition.
