In a neat complement to its exhibition of work by Fluxus mainstay Ay-O, the Museum of Contemporary Art, Tokyo is devoting a separate floor of its vast building to another key post-war artist. Atsuko Tanaka actually predated Ay-O's work when she and husband-to-be Akira Kanayama joined the Gutai group, an avant-garde movement whose activities in the late 1950s anticipated the happenings of the subsequent decade. This retrospective recreates some of Tanaka's most famous pieces, including her wearable 'Electric Dress' and interactive 'Work Bell' installation, which will be displayed alongside paintings, collages and documentary films.
